My run started somewhat spontaneously this morning when I got in touch with old high school teammate and friend Hunry Hunry Heffan and he asked if I wanted to join him for a short run. I agreed of course, because I will basically agree to any request to join someone on a run as long as I’m healthy and enjoying the sport.
It’s incredible what an impact familiar faces can have on a place; jogging through the streets around the high school made Brookline feel like it used to be when it was my Brookline, when the 9th graders still attended school in the same building as everyone else and that tiny complex used to be a Mexican restaurant with unlimited refills instead of another forgettable pizza place. I’m grateful for the opportunity to belong to this area again through this old friend, and I hope I can keep seeing the town in this warmer nostalgic light for the rest of my stay.
I imagine tomorrow will help with this plight as well; tomorrow is the annual reunion run for BHS XC alumni, and it will be the first time I am able to attend since the event’s inception. Who knows, maybe that run will even trigger some more storytelling about my past (wink wink).
Anyway, it was a solid day today, and I was content to get back home and rest in honor of turkey season. It’s going to get harder to find the time and motivation to write as we get thrown into the depths of the holiday season, but I am well aware that my time is running out before my next job starts and I will do my best to further my creative pursuits before I get to that point. In any case, Tim will definitely still be running.
